Those are the oddest looking mailboxes I've seen. They are nothing like ours here. Well I suppose that's how it's suppose to be so we bloggers can show different things in our neck of the woods ya think? Great photo :)

We used to have those kind long time ago, nowadays they are just the square white box, so boring!

Looks like a fire alarm. We don't have mail boxes in Vegas, because the postman, when he delivers mail, takes your outgoing letters at the same time. Now how simple is that?

Classic looking mailbox. The ones we have in the U.S. are so plain and blue...not bright red!

Perhaps the mailbox is red so that the mail carrier can locate it quickly. Ours are blue and white and Our eyes are trained to look for for those of us who still place our bills in the mail or write letter/send cards.
